Car chase

I'm planning on filming a car chase for my film. I've worked out the shots I want and the location. The location of the chase will be on some country lane near to where i live in the UK. I know this sounds quite dangerous but how illegal is this? I have taken serious consideration of peoples safety. I'm planning on filming early in the morning over a course of 3 weeks as I know the roads are clear. I'm not planning on anything elaborate like crashes and skidding.
Your thoughts please.

Well, without actually knowing where abouts you are in the UK, it is hard to tell...

Obviously, if you are doing something Illegal (I.e. Speeding, driving with no licence / insurance, etc...) then you will ALWAYS run the risk of peing pulled by police...

Speaking from experience, this is NOT a good road to go down (if you'll excuse the cr*p joke)...

If you are filming a car chace, I'd recommend filming it at normal, safe speeds. You can always add in screeches and sound effects to make it seem more exciting in post production.

Also, make absolutly POSITIVE that whoever is driving the car is TOTALLY LEGAL!

If you are filming, and the driver hits someone, they will be in deep cack!

I'd recommend you find either some off-road place to film, or some private property. (Bearing in mind you check with whoever owns the property!)

I did a night car chase a while ago. It wasn't so much a car chasing car thing, but a truck chasing guy who is jumping over fences and the like thing. Worked out well. Although it probably could have been safer seeing as how there was a lot of ice. But yes, keep the driver constant, legal, and someone who knows the vehicle. Now, for the advice. We knew we'd be doing this at night on a certain day, so we gave a little warning to the local Police Dept. Luckily this required little effort on our part since one of the actor/crewman was the son of a police officer. We assured them that we weren't doing anything illegal, and our repetative shots were on secondary alleys. Just let them know that there will be fiv guys in black trenchcoats with fake guns and a real knife sneaking around town at time X on day Y. But this is a fairly rural area so it wasn't a problem. But rest assured you can be fined for stunting (at least here in Canada) and that is the worst next to reckless driving and vehicular manslaughter, so be careful and good luck.
